Overlord 2
Overlord 2 Review Overlord 2 is a funny and entertaining game that keeps you laughing until you stop playing, and even then you might still be laughing. It is for PC, 360 and PS3, this review is based off the PS3 version. It is a Third Person Smash Fest, where you control your Minions and get treasure, kill people, Destroy tents, Destroy buildings, enslave villagers with the best country folk accent ever, and make a pseudo-Roman empire look silly. First thing you notice when you start the game is that you're a bit small, this is later shown that you are the Overlord's son (So those mistresses had a purpose after all) and that since you've not been in power, the "Empire" has decided to take over and get rid of all Magical Creatures while they are at it. Then once you master the controls for the controller, which are confusing at first seen as I played the first Overlord on the PC, but moving an analogue stick is much better than holding down both mouse buttons and moving the mouse about. Anyway, once you master the controls you then wreak havoc across the small little town you are in, only to be thrown out to the empire, but your minions help you by terrorising the Romans, then you get frozen in some Ice with a large Yeti after a boat sinks. The next thing you see is an entertaining cinematic where a Minion gets toasted by a dragon. And you end up nice and big, Gnarl, the advisor, still chants the humourous attitude and bullies the Jester, who now seems a bit tribal. Anyway after various tutorials you eventually get to pummel some seals to death and find some hippie elves, which is entertaining. Although it's still the basic same idea of Evil is Good from the first Overlord, the moral choice system has turned into a "Dominate or Destroy" replacing the "Good or Evil" from the last game, each different choice you make in either direction decides which spells you get, and most normal people, like myself, probably go down the road of destruction. This means you murder everyone. After you finish the Snow area, you have to drive a boat, which is the best boat driving I have ever seen in any game, it all works properly, but of course there's a sea fight that was very tedious. I'll stop telling you what is happening now because I don't want to spoil too much about everything. The AI in the game is simple yet clever, the Roman foot soldiers need the legionnaires to function properly, with them, you'll lose your browns, without them you can murder the lot of em! There are Ballistic Arrow launchers that kill you easily too, but the best way to fix this is to send your minions to kill the guards on it, then use it to your advantage by blowing holes in everyone's chests! There is still the arduous task of finding the Minion hives, but all's well once you've got them all. There are also moments when you have to possess your minions by finding special stones and sending them all in to dance around it, then you zap it with your lightning bolt, and then you control that minion, it's a tactical way of getting around things and it's quite fun to go around shouting "MINE!" and "FOR ME!!!" as well. The Splitscreen 2 player mode is extremely fun because when you and your friend realise that you can quite easily break the map just like that by following certain commands off the internet, you take the first opurtunity to do so, and then you spend almost about an hour doing it untill your friend gets bored and decideds to send in his Green minions to backstab you and then you die and your boat goes back to your spawn with you in a nice little neat way, but then you get alerted because your friend has decided to steal all your money, but the great bit is that you can do exactly the same to them, the game is Balanced when you play with others, the only difference between players in the game is the actual physical Skill that you have, so if you want to win, I personally suggest that you play through the singleplayer campaign first before you embark on owning other players. (Not Pwning, I speak English don't you know?). When you are playing online you get all of your minion types availible, so that is another good reason as to why you should play the campaign first. The Graphics in the game are excellent, mind you I consider a lot of graphics nowerdays Excellent, but anyway, the effects are all nicely done with your spells and the sky and air changes quite nicely when you go into an area that has some sort of change like, say... Tar Pits full of gnomes that just happened to be set on fire, no I didn't do that, I'm a good overlord, it's just I can't control my crazy minions, if they happen to be setting things on fire, then it isn't my fault? Well it is, I just sent my hordes of red minions in to destroy them all, well BURN anyway. The Snow is good because it doesn't just go paralell to your camera, but the footsteps are all the same, however this game isn't Metal Gear Solid 4. The Music is brilliant and I can only really describe it as an EPIC soundtrack because of it's Orchestral awesomeness, and the great addition of the Minion voices is a nice touch. So, I guess that means I've written a lot of what I can, so I guess that means I now have to summarise the game. The game is pretty much a neatened up version of the Original Overlord, with some nice touches and that, and it is worth the money, although the Ship's health was a bit low on that Elf Island, I'll give it 92/100.
